TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa firefighters said an early morning house fire is under control, and the cause is under investigation.

Captain Henry Williams with Tampa Fire Rescue said the call came in around 5 a.m. from a person who was inside the home in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue.

The caller was able to get out of the home and call 911. Firefighters arrived and found the home 50% involved; crews went in but were forced back outside when conditions deteriorated, and things starts to collapse.

Williams said firefighters fought the fire defensively until it was under control, about 45 minutes later. Crews are now inside the home performing an overhaul and checking for pockets of fire that are hard to reach.

Firefighters said there were no reported injuries.

Kennedy Boulevard was shut down in both directions from Henderson Boulevard to N. Himes Avenue but reopened around 8 a.m. It was closed for nearly three hours.

The home suffered significant fire and water damage, Williams said. The back part of the home collapsed.

Williams said the 911 caller did the right thing by getting out of the home and staying out. He urged people not to return inside a home during a fire.
